C.J. Brown Injury A Freak Accident During Non-Contact Drill

University of Maryland head football coach Randy Edsall held a press conference on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the season ending injury sustained by starting quarterback C.J. Brown during practice. The junior quarterback tore his ACL in his right knee while running upfield during a two-minute, non-contact drill.

According to Edsall, it is a move Brown has made on several occasions without issue.

Former teammate Danny O’Brien sent well wishes to Brown via twitter after the injury was made public. In 2011, Brown took the starting spot from O’Brien around midseason and went onto throw for 842 yards and rush for 574.

O’Brien has since transferred to the University of Wisconsin, which leaves Perry Ellis as the assumed starter at Maryland, with Caleb Rowe waiting in the wings.
