MLS 2012, Week 22 Preview And Matches: The Table Is Starting To Make Sense

The MLS table is finally starting to look like something sensible and not a mish mash of of craziness.

As the summer winds to a close and the stretch run comes into view, the MLS table is starting to look more sensible. It’s not an all-out war anymore where seemingly any team can go from first to last or last to first in a month. There is still plenty up for grabs, but at least it is manageable now and we can make sense of it.

Seattle Sounders vs. Vancouver Whitecaps

Saturday, 4:00 p.m. ET, MLS Live

The two best teams in the Cascadia Cup square off, and it will be in front of only 60,000 people or so. These northwest people really like their soccerball.

Pick: Seattle, 2-1.

Toronto FC vs. Sporting Kansas City

Saturday, 4:30 p.m. ET, MLS Live

The Reds' renaissance under Paul Mariner looks like it has come to an end. That Sporting are just a better team does help matters too.

Pick: Kansas City, 3-1.

Montreal Impact vs. San Jose Earthquakes

Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET, MLS Live

Five points clear with a match in hand, the Quakes are looking pretty good. Irrelevant and uninteresting, the Impact are looking like an expansion team.

Pick: San Jose, 1-0.

Chicago Fire vs. New England Revolution

Saturday, 8:30 p.m. ET, MLS Live

When did the Fire move five points out of first with a match in hand? Sneaky, sneaky.

Pick: Chicago, 2-0.

Colorado Rapids vs. Chivas USA

Saturday, 9:00 p.m. ET, MLS Live

Which team is more irrelevant? Which team can draw fewer fans? These are the questions that need answering.

Pick: Draw, 0-0.

Real Salt Lake vs. FC Dallas

Saturday, 9:00 p.m. ET, MLS Live

There is no chance that Dallas can somehow find their way into the playoffs after their first half of the season, right? RIGHT?!?

Pick: Draw, 1-1.

D.C. United vs. Philadelphia Union

Sunday, 5:00 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network

You could argue that D.C. are in danger of being passed up by Montreal for the final playoff spot, but they you realize that they are still three points up with a staggering four matches in hand. Seriously, who is doing the scheduling around these parts?

Pick: D.C., 2-1.

New York Red Bulls vs. Portland Timbers

Sunday, 7:00 p.m. ET, Galavision

Relegate the Timbers.

Pick: New York, a lot-0.

Houston Dynamo vs. Columbus Crew

Sunday, 9:00 p.m. ET, MLS Live

Nobody beats the Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium. No one.

Pick: Houston, 2-0.
