It was a rainy day in Tuscaloosa, but that did not keep Nick Saban and his defending BCS National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide team indoors during their second scrimmage of the fall.

Junior quarterback and second year starter AJ McCarron led the first-team offense satistically, going 12-for-23 and compiling 242 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Freshman running back TJ Yeldon had 60 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries to lead the rushing attack, but, in a fashion uncharacteristic to a Nick Saban-coached team, it was the passing game that stole the show.

Freshman receiver Marvin Shinn led all receivers on the day with 85 yards on only two receptions, one resulting in a touchdown. Kevin Norwood followed with 76 yards on three receptions with two touchdowns of his own. Overall, Saban was pleased with his passing attack.

“I thought AJ (McCarron) handled himself well today, especially in those circumstances, and did a good job of taking care of the ball,” Saban said. “T.J. (Yeldon) played very well today as a runner. Kevin Norwood also made some great plays and some big catches.”

As expected, several defensive players also turned in good performances over the nearly 140-play scrimmage. Junior linebacker C.J. Mosley recorded six tackles, two of which were for a loss. He also had a sack and an interception which he returned for 34 yards and a touchdown. Senior linebacker Damion Square and sophomore linebacker Xzavier Dickson also added four tackles and a sack apiece.

The Crimson Tide will resume practice Tuesday in preparation for their Sept. 1 opener against the Michigan Wolverines in Cowboys Stadium.
