Mark Teixeira Injury: Yankees 1B Out 7-14 Days

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira could miss two weeks after suffering a strained left calf in Monday's loss to the Blue Jays. "It could be as little as a week, it could be two weeks," Teixeira told reporters. "I don't really know. It's very frustrating."

Teixeira injured himself after hitting a foul ball in the fourth inning. He initially stayed in the game after being visited by a team trainer, eventually reaching base on a walk. He advanced to second following a single by Eric Chavez and scored on a single by Russell Martin, but he was noticeably limping by the time he crossed home plate.

After retreating to the clubhouse, he was removed from the game and sent for an MRI, which confirmed a Grade 1 strain. “I thought I could kind of run through it,” Teixeira said, according to the New York Times. “But instead of loosening up as I was running it kind of tightened up on me.”

Teixeira is hitting .255/.335/.478 with 23 home runs and 81 RBI in 435 at-bats this season. It’s possible that his absence could be filled by Steve Pearce, acquired from Houston in a trade earlier Monday. In 134 at-bats split between the Astros and Orioles this season, Pearce is hitting .254/.333/.396 with three home runs and 22 RBI.
