The Wisconsin Badgers have something of a quarterback controversy on their hands, after starter Danny O'Brien was benched at halftime on Saturday in favor of redshirt freshman Joel Stave. Wisconsin did end up winning their game over Utah State, 16-14, but with with O'Brien's benching and the lack of an eye-opening performance from Stave, it remains unclear where head coach Bret Bielema and offensive coordinator Matt Canada will go with this one.
Wisconsin Starting QB For Week 4 To Remain A Mystery
The Wisconsin Badgers may have picked their starting quarterback for Week 4, but they’re not telling the media whether it’s Danny O’Brien or Joel Stave.
As it turns out, they’ve made a decision and we simply don’t know what it is yet, according to SB Nation’s Wisconsin blog, Bucky’s 5th Quarter on Twitter.
So the QBs know who's starting vs. UTEP, but media don't & probably won't. Doesn't seem like QBs will be made available this week. #Badgers

They also had a post in which Louis Bien suggests that O’Brien should remain the starter. Deficient execution from the offensive line is cited as one reason for O’Brien’s poor play on Saturday. Regardless, it appears likely that O’Brien is the guy, given Wisconsin’s statements lately, which seem to indicate that they don’t want their players thinking one bad performance can put them out of a job.
A quarterback who is constantly looking over his shoulder at the guy behind him is rarely effective, as those kinds of battles are generally reserved for training camp and exhibition games.
