The Detroit Lions had a tough job running the ball on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, and could be looking to bolster their backfield, as evidenced by multiple running backs working out with the team. The latest of those running backs is Ryan Grant, formerly of the Green Bay Packers, according to Jason La Canfora via Twitter.
Lions Will Workout Steve Slaton, Ryan Grant
The Detroit Lions are going to work out ex-Packers running back Ryan Grant, shortly after taking a look at free agent Steve Slaton.

Steve Slaton not the only RB heading to Detroit for a workout ... Ex-Packer Ryan Grant is as well

Starter Jahvid Best began the season on the physically unable to perform list due to a concussion suffered last season. There's still doubt on whether or not Best will even be able to return and for the time being, Kevin Smith has been the starter. Smith was initially released by the Lions prior to Best's concussion, so the situation is far from ideal.
Against San Francisco's run defense, it was no surprise that Smith wasn't able to get much done. Still, the Lions would like another look at the position, potentially adding a new face just as second-year player Mikel Leshoure is set to return from suspension. Steve Slaton is also set to visit the Lions, as noted in the Tweet from La Canfora. He's been a free agent all season.
Grant played in 15 games for the Packers in 2011, carrying the ball 134 times for 559 yards, his lowest total yards in that many appearances in his six-year career. He’s been banged up off and on for the past two seasons and was released prior to the start of the regular season.
