NFL Week 4: Atlanta, Houston and Arizona stay perfect

We’ll start with the good from Week 4:

The Cardinals’ wins have come by four, two, 21 and three points. Sometimes being lucky is as useful as being good.

The defenses have come to play, but look for both Tom Coughlin and Andy Reid to make offensive adjustments for the second half.

Whoa hey what am I looking at here? Easy there, Will Beatty. Just settle down with that facemask there. We know you loved The Dark Knight Rises but that’s no reason to wear Rob Liefeld’s approximation of what he thinks a football facemask would look like.

The Packers have a slim 28-27 lead as the clock winds down to the two-minute warning. New Orleans has looked more like the Saints fans remember from last season, giving the Packers a real fight in a game that few expected to be so close.

Morgan pulled away from a pair of Packers defensive backs on his way down the field for the score.

There’s no such thing as an errant pass when Green is around, the guy simply catches everything. On this play he laid out, and stayed in the air so long that he even had time to extend his left arm and brace his fall. That’s just, well, wow.

Manish Metha says it “looks bad”. Holmes struggled to put weight on the leg after his injury, and he had to be carted off the field after the play happened.

Making matters worse, Holmes threw away the ball before he was blown down on the play. San Francisco cornerback Carlos Rogers picked up the ball and ran it in for a 51-yard touchdown amid the confusion. The replay official reviewed the play, but did not overturn the ruling.

Following the touchdown, Newton (an Atlanta native) knew just how to get under the skin of the local crowd: dance the A-Town stomp.

This won’t do much for Newton’s relation with Atlanta fans, but who cares? The NFC South could use more bad blood.

One thing that has worked this year against the Jets defense is misdirection, and San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick runs the option flawlessly in the 1st quarter.

If the 49ers play between the tackles, the Jets may have a chance, but getting out wide can yield chunks of yardage, as seen here. Currently no score in New York, but the Niners are driving.

It’s the first time since his suspension that Williams has been allowed near a professional football team.
