The New York Yankees entered the day tied with the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East. Despite falling behind 5-1 early on Sunday afternoon against the Blue Jays, the Yankees battled back in a big way to win by a score of 9-6. With the win by the Orioles, New York and Baltimore remain tied in the East with 92-67 records, with only three games left on the schedule.

The Yankees tied the game up in the seventh inning. Ichiro Suzuki plated a run with a sac fly, and he was followed by a double off the bat of Robinson Cano that scored another run. With Nick Swisher at the plate, a wild pitch from reliever Aaron Loup allowed Alex Rodriguez to tie the game at 5-5.

New York got right back after it in the eighth, scoring two more runs. Eduardo Nunez drove home the first with a sacrifice fly. Derek Jeter singled to right field to make the score 7-5. In the ninth inning, Curtis Granderson singled to score two more runs and push the lead to 9-5.

The Blue Jays loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth, but Yunel Escobar grounded into a double play to thwart any chance of a wild comeback. Adam Lind grounded out for the final out of the game.

The Yankees now return home to take on the Red Sox for the final series of the year. The Orioles travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Rays, who are clinging onto their playoff chances.
