The Baltimore Orioles kept pace in the American League East on Sunday, defeating the Boston Red Sox by a score of 6-3. The Orioles entered the day tied with the Yankees in the division, and with the two clubs winning this afternoon they will enter the final week of the season with identical records of 92-67.

Baltimore scored three runs in the first inning. Nate McLouth hit a solo homer to lead off the game. Matt Wieters grounded into a double play with the bases loaded, but it managed to bring home one more run. Jim Thome then singled up the middle to give the Os a 3-0 lead.

J.J. Hardy hit a solo home run in the third inning, then Thome singled to drive home another run to make it 5-0. Cody Ross of the Red Sox hit a solo homer in the fourth, but Baltimore responded with a Chris Davis home run, his 31st long ball of the season to push the lead to 6-1.

Daniel Nava hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning, but that was all Boston would mount against the Orioles bullpen. Jim Johnson came on the ninth and worked a perfect inning to record his 40th save of the season.

The Os now hit the road to take on the Tampa Bay Rays for the final series of the year. The Yankees return home to play the Red Sox.
