After losing at home to Panama in their 2014 World Cup qualifying opener, Honduras had no margin for error in the rest of qualifying. That meant they had to get three points against Cuba, even away, and on Friday they did just that in a 3-0 thrashing of the Cubans.

All three goals for the Catrachos came from players playing in MLS as Jerry Bengston opened the scoring in the 31st mnute, Victor Bernardez added a second in the 63rd inute and Marvin Chavez wrapped it up with a tally in stoppage time.
Beating Cuba isn’t as easy as it may seem. They played Panama and Canada tough in their first two matches and only lost 1-0 in both. Honduras was no sure bet to get three points in Havana and they didn’t just win, they looked excellent in doing so.
Honduras is now on four points in Group B, even with Canada and two points behind first place Panama. Canada and Panama square off tonight in Toronto. Cuba is at the bottom of the group without a point.
