Former Baylor commit Rami Hammad pledges to Texas

There wasn’t much suspense in the four-star offensive guard’s announcement for the ‘Horns.

The Texas Longhorns offensive line class added another big pledge on Wednesday with the expected announcement of 2013 Irving (Texas) offensive guard Rami Hammad.

The other supposed finalists were Baylor, Oklahoma, and TCU, but there was little drama in the final decision. A former Oklahoma State pledge, the 6-5, 320-pound Hammad had committed to Baylor in November before seeing his stock explode with a strong performance at the Semper Fi All-American Bowl in early January.

Among his 15 new suitors were the Longhorns and Sooners. Hammad had intended to take trips to Oklahoma and TCU while still committed to Baylor, ending up instead at Texas last weekend. The newly minted four-star prospect then decommitted from the Bears on Sunday afternoon after leaving Austin and set his announcement date for Wednesday.

At that point, it didn’t take much rocket science to figure that Hammad would land at Texas.

So even though Baylor has developed offensive linemen better than the ‘Horns recently, Hammad believes the future is bright in Austin under offensive line coach Stacey Searels:

On Monday, the Longhorns received their first commitment in more than three months when Contra Costa CC offensive tackle Desmond Harrison became the only addition to the class since Livingston (Texas) defensive back Chevoski Collins back in early October.

Hammad is the 15th commitment for the Longhorns and joins Harrison, Under Armour All-American Darius James, and US Army All-Americans Kent Perkins and Jake Raulerson in an offensive line class that ranks among the best in the nation, though Raulerson may start his career at defensive end.
