Desmond Harrison commits to the Texas Longhorns over Arizona State, USC

The top junior college tackle by 247Sports is now off the board.

The Texas Longhorns added to an already strong 2013 offensive line class on Monday with the commitment of Contra Costa CC offensive tackle Desmond Harrison.

Harrison chose Texas over finalists Arizona State and USC. The Oklahoma Sooners had pursued Harrison, but had fallen off the radar in recent days.

Ranked as the top junior college offensive tackle by 247Sports, Harrison held offers from 13 total schools, including Arkansas, California, North Carolina State, and Washington. 247Sports has him as a four-star prospect, while the other services consider him a three-star recruit.

The Longhorns return both starting tackles from the 2012 team in senior Donald Hawkins and junior Josh Cochran, but lost their only experienced back up in Luke Poehlmann. Harrison has ties to the state after spending some time in the Houston area growing up.

Those connections apparently won out over some strong connections to Arizona State -- his roommate and close friend Demetrius Cherry has already signed with the Sun Devils. Another JUCO teammate, Eriquel Florence, is also headed to Arizona State. Harrison also would have been able to compete for a vacant tackle position at Arizona State.

Harrison is the 14th commit in a Texas class that has had trouble making late additions. He joins Under Armour All-American Darius James and US Army All-Americans Kent Perkins and Jake Raulerson in a strong offensive line class for the ‘Horns that could add former Baylor commit Rami Hammad on Wednesday.

A May graduate, Harrison will enroll at Texas in June and will have three years to complete two seasons of eligibility.
