A lot of fantasy football owners were all about Panthers wide receiver Brandon LaFell last year heading into drafts -- myself included. As fate would have it, those plans didn't quite come to frutition. He caught just 44 of his 76 targets last year, scoring just four times after he made a hard charge to close out 2011.
Fantasy football start/sit: Brandon LaFell is heating up, but should you start him Thursday?
The Panthers take on the Buccaneers on Thursday night and Brandon LaFell is back on the radar in fantasy football. Should you roll the dice and start him?
This year, he’s starting to get into a groove opposite Steve Smith. In his last two games, he’s caught seven of his eight targets for a total of 142 yards and a score, which means Cam Newton had a 158.3 passer rating on those balls because he didn’t throw any picks. The targets still quite are there yet, plus Ted Ginn has been a factor for the team. Ginn has an 18.3 yards per reception average and has been asked to stretch the field. Although, Ginn has just five targets in his last two games.
The Panthers get to take on a reeling Buccaneers D and they have been getting dominated in the secondary. Quarterbacks and receivers have been able to put up big numbers, while the running backs have struggled a little.
It’s really going to be tough to start LaFell on a short week since most of the time teams don’t score as many points as expected. He’s more of a Hail Mary guy in deep leagues.
