Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder (ribs) is not expected to play for the team when they suit up to face the Carolina Panthers in Week 6, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter. In that same report, Schefter goes on to say that newly-acquired quarterback Josh Freeman will give way to Matt Cassel, who started in the team's Week 4 Win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Christian Ponder likely out another game for fantasy owners
The Vikings quarterback is not expected to play in the team’s Week 6 game against the Panthers. We discuss the fantasy implications.

Fantasy impact: There was never any doubt that Ponder would be on the sidelines in Week 6, especially considering the fact he struggled when he was healthy. With Cassel leading the team to their first win of the season, they might as well keep going with what works.
In three starts this season, Ponder threw five interceptions compared to just two touchdowns. Although averaging over 230 yards per game is not bad, he just doesn’t look like a quarterback-of-the-future-type player anymore.
Coupling Ponder’s performance this season with the fact that the team is paying Freeman $3 million for the rest of the season and still has Cassel starting, the chances of Ponder starting in more games for the team this year seem really slim.
There’s a good chance that fantasy owners weren’t really counting on Ponder as their go-to guy anyway, but in case you were, here is confirmation that you should probably drop him.
