Michigan football 2013: Fitzgerald Toussaint ‘will be running’ in spring

Michigan running back Fitzgerald Toussaint suffered a gruesome leg injury last season, but he plans on returning to the field this spring.

Michigan running back Fitzgerald Toussaint was forced to miss the regular-season finale against Ohio State and bowl game against South Carolina after sustaining a severe break to his left tibia during the Wolverines' game against Iowa last season. Despite the awful injury and projected lengthy recovery time, Toussaint plans to return for spring practice, according to Angelique S. Chengelis of the Detroit News.

To the surprise of some teammates and coaches, Toussaint has already begun jogging and running lateral-movement drills. As he told Chengelis, he’s doing everything in his power to accelerate the recovery and get back in the action this spring:

“May not be full contact, (but) I will have a helmet on,” he said. “I will be running gassers with those guys.”

Before the injury last season, Toussaint played in 10 games, rushing for 514 yards and five touchdowns on 130 carries. This season, he’ll be trying to regain his form from 2011, when he rushed 187 times for 1,041 yards and nine touchdowns.
