Fitzgerald Toussaint injury: Michigan RB undergoes surgery

Michigan starting running back Fitzgerald Toussaint underwent surgery after a nasty left ankle injury in the Wolverines’ 42-17 victory over Iowa.

Michigan coach Brady Hoke revealed that running back Fitzgerald Toussaint underwent surgery after the starter injured his left ankle in the first quarter of the Wolverines' 42-17 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes:

Toussaint suffered the gruesome ankle injury on Michigan’s first possession of the game at the end of a 10-yard run. He was taken off the field on a stretcher and carted to the locker room before being taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The junior running back had carried the ball three times for 31 yards prior to going out with the injury. Entering the game, Toussaint had racked up 483 yards and five touchdowns on 127 carries. Last season, he rushed for 1,041 yards and nine scores on 187 carries.

Denard Robinson took a bunch of the snaps at running back against Iowa with Toussaint sidelined. Robinson ran for 98 yards in the Michigan victory.
