Chris Ivory visited the Jets, according to report

It has been an active offseason in restricted free agency, which is unusual. It’s being reported the Jets visited with Saints RFA RB Chris Ivory Friday. Ivory was given a second-round tender by the Saints.

Activity in restricted free agency is usually a half-step up from flat-line status.

This year is different.

With the Patriots already signing Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders to an offer sheet, Howard Balzer is reporting Saints running back Chris Ivory has visited with the New York Jets.

Ivory was tendered at the second-round level for 2013, meaning the Jets would give up the 39th-overall pick in the draft to bring Ivory aboard. The Saints, down a second-round pick for their participation in a pay-for-performance system dating back to 2009, would likely be perfectly fine with receiving that pick in exchange for Ivory's services.

The restricted free agency deadline is April 19, so any offer would have to come before that. If Ivory did sign an offer sheet with the Jets, the Saints would have five days to match it before his rights would shift to the Jets.

Sanders is expected to leave Pittsburgh, becoming the first restricted free agent in history to leave for a one-year deal.

Ivory appeared in six games for the Saints in 2012, rushing 40 times for 217 yards and two touchdowns.
