Upon his ejection from the Wizards-Bucks game, Larry Sanders administered a thumbs-up to all three refs working the game, and he did so with a big old grin on his face. I’d be happy, too. Being ejected from a Wizards-Bucks game is probably like finding out you don’t have to go to church: you’re expected to act sad and concerned, but really you’re just happy to stay at home and check out all the weird-ass cartoons they run on Sunday morning. “Holy Hell, X-Force on UPN. What the Hell is this show? So this is how the rest of America lives.”

Nothing like hitting a baseball directly toward a child’s face to make him or her react like a ventriloquist dummy. Lots of kids have that kind of reaction, and that’s the reaction they should have, because at no point in our evolutionary adventure as a species did we learn the lesson that “things flying at us really quickly are great!” Also, nothing taught us that it was OK to just play around in a field for three hours.
Baseball is a lot of things to a lot of people, but more than anything, it’s a giant, bellowing message to the countless variables that had to miraculously end up exactly right for humans to come into being: “WE AIN’T LEARNED SHIT AND WE DON’T NEED YOU ANYMORE.”
