These dang GIF TOURNAMENTs always break my heart. Every single time. Certainly, there can only be winner, and I do feel that it’s important to follow established seeding protocols, rather than seeding the bracket however I’d like.
GIF Tournament IV: The Elite Eight
After over 23,000 votes, we’ve narrowed the field down to the eight funniest, most glorious animated sports GIFs of 2013 to date. Today, we take to the polls once again to send our favorite GIFs to the Final Four.
But yesterday, we had to wave goodbye to a GIF legend.
PORTLAND NOSEPICKER was glorious. That anyone noticed him in the background at all was a miracle. Had he remained oblivious of his audience and sat there pickin’ away, it would have been funny. But then the bemused glance at his booger, and ... THE WINK.
That wink. That MacGyver hair, worn in Portland, one of the hippest cities in America. It’s like he wandered in from the remote Pacific Northwest, where fashion still lives in the 1980s, and where nasal hygiene is regarded differently.
PORTLAND NOSEPICKER, you fell to DOINK!, a GIF legend in its own right. I don’t know whether we’ve ever faced a tougher vote. Whatever the case, friends, we must ensure that this GIF is never forgotten.
Sigh. OK.
There was plenty of other drama yesterday, as well. SCOTT FELDMAN, a 1-seed, suffered a shocking upset. PETER CHIARELLI, a 13-seed and dark horse of sorts, saw its championship dreams crumble. The true dark horse of the tournament, 14-seed SNIPED METS FAN, completely laid waste to its competition, taking an astonishing 90 percent of the vote.
And now, after a total of 23,390 votes received, we are down to eight GIFs. Voting will remain open throughout the weekend, and on Monday, we’ll vote on the Final Four.
