NASCAR Kentucky 2013: Kyle Busch still upset with Carl Edwards, Juan Pablo Montoya

Kyle Busch did not have a good experience at Sonoma Raceway last weekend.

In Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 he was involved in separate incidents with Juan Pablo Montoya and Carl Edwards. In each instance, Busch spun out but it was the contact with Edwards that resulted in him making substantial contact with a tire barrier.

Both drivers would apologize to Busch, but it didn’t erase the fact he had finished 35th on a track where he had won at previously and was hoping to do so again.

When asked how he felt about what transpired at Sonoma, Busch was direct with his feelings. “Really upset,” he said Thursday at Kentucky Speedway. When asked to elaborate, he said “I think it’s pretty self explanatory.”

The rough outing dropped him two spots in the standings to eighth, just 16 points ahead of 11th-place Paul Menard.

If there were an ideal track for him to rebound at it would be Kentucky. Busch won the inaugural Sprint Cup race on the 1.5-mile oval in 2011 and last year led 118 laps before fading back to 10th. He is running all three races this weekend beginning with Thursday night’s Truck Series race where he finished third.

While some may not agree with a Cup interloper running in lesser divisions, Busch does it because he feels it helps him adjust to the nuances of a particular track.

“I like being able to get out there on the racetrack and be able to run as many laps as I can,” Busch said. “For me, just getting that extra track time is kind of like extra practice and I don’t mind taking advantage of all that.

“This has been a place that has been pretty good for me here lately. Hopefully we can continue that trend this weekend.”
