Heavy showers forced the postponement of Saturday’s NASCAR race at Kentucky until noon Sunday.

The Sprint Cup Series race has been rescheduled for Sunday at noon ET. TNT will provide television coverage.
As predicted, showers began hitting the track mid-afternoon and continued to hit the speedway intermittently. NASCAR continually attempted to dry the 1.5-mile oval during lulls in the rain, but the efforts became futile when the skies would again open up.
The official decision to postpone the race was made shortly after 9 p.m. ET. This is the first Cup race NASCAR has had to reschedule since the 2012 Daytona 500.
Sunday’s weather forecast will be much like Saturday, as far as the threat of scattered to isolated thunderstorms throughout the afternoon.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start on the pole Sunday, sharing the front row with Carl Edwards. Series points leader Jimmie Johnson will lineup third.
