An already difficult week for Ryan Newman was made more exacting when he crashed out of the Camping World RV Sales 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Days after learning he was losing his ride at the end of the year, Ryan Newman was caught up in a multi-car wreck involving Kurt Busch and others.

After a Lap 223 restart, Newman was running in a pack of cars when the field bunched up heading into Turn 1 when Kurt Busch lost control of his car. Replays proved inconclusive whether Matt Kenseth made contact with Busch’s No. 78 Chevrolet, but the end result saw Busch and Newman make hard contact with the wall.
“We just got whacked by a bunch of guys,” Newman said. “The No. 18 (Kyle Busch) hit me first, the No. 2 (Brad Keselowski) hit me next and then I guess it was Kurt that went underneath three-wide. The No. 20 (Matt Kenseth) came and clipped us and knocked us into the fence and took himself out.
“That was the best I could tell. I don’t know.”
The accident capped off a difficult week for Newman, who on Wednesday learned he was losing his ride at Stewart-Haas Racing at the end of the season to make way for the arrival of Kevin Harvick.
Newman was running in the top 10 Sunday when the incident occurred. He finished 39th.
“Just a lot of disrespect from a bunch of guys on restarts,” Newman said. “What comes around goes around ... I didn’t expect to get hit, but I remember who hit me.”
The wreck also sidelined Busch, who had led 102 laps and was in contention for his first victory since September 2011.
Driving for Furniture Row Racing, Busch jumped to ninth in the standings following a sixth-place finish the week before at Daytona. It was an unprecedented points position for a single-car team this late in the season since the inception of the Chase in 2004.
But it was short-lived.
After finishing 31st Sunday, Busch dropped to 14th, seven points behind 10th-place Kasey Kahne.
“I just got hit from behind,” Busch said. “There was three-wide action, everybody’s going hard. Kenseth was in the middle and he was in the middle on the back straightaway. The car gets light when there is no air on the rear spoiler back there.”
