The front nine is supposed to be the scoring side at Muirfield, but Tiger Woods has taken an opposite approach on Thursday. After making the turn at 1-over, Woods has gone on a birdie spree on the back nine and is now 1-under overall.

After a slow start, the world’s No. 1 is rolling on the back nine and is now 1-under on the round.
Woods opened the second nine strong with back-to-back birdies at No. 10 and No. 11. He ran into trouble on No. 12, finding an awkward lie in a greenside bunker, but Woods has been terrific out of the sand all day and hit another excellent shot despite having a knee on the ground.
Tiger went on to save par and remain in the red. He hit a safe tee shot into the Par 3 13th hole, leaving at least 25 feet for birdie. He hit the putt perfectly and watched it break into the center of the cup for his third birdie on the back nine.
Woods ran into trouble on No. 14 when his approach shot came up well short. He hammed his lag putt beyond the hole and the ball ended up rolling down a slope and off the green:
The world’s No. 1 missed the par putt coming back up the hill, but knocked in a tricky bogey putt to remain in the red. Another lag putt on the 15th hole was more successful, this time leaving a short tap-in putt to remain at 1-under heading into the final three holes.
Woods should have a good opportunity to get one stroke back at No. 17, the second-easiest hole on the course.
