In a tweet sent by Stewart-Haas Racing after the conclusion of the Cheez-It 355 at Watkins Glen, the team said Stewart was home and “resting comfortably.”

Stewart sustained a broken right tibia and fibula in a sprint car crash Monday at a dirt track in Iowa. He underwent an operation Tuesday to stabilize and clean the injury and a second surgery Thursday where a metal rod was inserted in the bone.
No timetable has been established on how long he will be sidelined. This past weekend was the first Cup race Stewart missed since joining the circuit in 1999, a span of 521 consecutive races.
His No. 14 car was driven at Watkins Glen by Max Papis, while a driver for next week’s race at Michigan will be determined Monday.
Papis started 29th Sunday and was making steady progress through the field when he made contact with Greg Biffle going through the bus stop chicane. Papis would recover to finish 15th.
“I felt that we were definitely bound to have a top-10 finish,” Papis said. “Really glad that Greg Biffle came over and apologized when he turned me around, he said it was totally his mistake.
“Beside this I drove the wheels off the car every lap. Super proud of keeping the seat of Smoke (Stewart) as warm as I could. I felt I did a pretty good job and I’m proud of myself.”
