Phil Mickelson was sharp from the get-go in the first round of the Deutsche Bank Championship, and he currently holds a two-stroke lead over the field at 8-under. Bob Estes sits in second at 6-under, while Lee Westwood and Henrik Stenson are tied for third place at 5-under.
Deutsche Bank Championship leaderboard: Phil Mickelson holds early 2-stroke lead
Mickelson began his round on a roll, and now everyone is chasing him.

Mickelson has been the story so far, though -- he began his round on the back nine, where he birdied seven of his first nine holes, leaving open the possibility of a sub-60 round. He cooled a bit after the turn, however, and posted his first bogie at No. 1. He bounced right back with an eagle on No. 2 and followed that with pars on No. 3 and No. 4. He’ll need birdies on his final four holes to card a 59.
Elsewhere in the field, some notables already have a lot of work ahead of them. Tiger Woods is 2-under through 14 holes, leaving him six strokes off the pace. Bubba Watson and Jim Furyk are 1-under, while Adam Scott is 1-over.
