Mayweather vs Canelo results: Pablo Cesar Cano beats Ashley Theophane by split decision
Pablo Cesar Cano defeats Ashley Theophane in the first bout of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez pay-per-view.

From the opening bell it was Cano on the attack, working hard to the body and outclassing Theophane. While Theophane tried to continue moving around the outside, Cano stalked and threw body shots that kept Theophane from ever getting any degree of comfort.
In round three Cano managed to land a heavy hook that staggered Theophane. While Cano couldn’t put him down, it was clear that Theophane had to do something drastic to change the way things were going.
While Theophane did try to come out in round four and up his pressure, Cano was relentless to the body and Ashley didn’t have the power to back him off.
A huge right hand in round five badly hurt Theophane, sending him back into the ropes and then clinching, trying to survive. Seconds later it was a big hook from Theophane who backed Cano into the ropes. Somehow this spurred Theophane into finishing the round with some of his best work of the fight.
Theophane did find his legs a bit down the stretch and Cano slowed down as the minutes ticked by. But Theophane was working out of a big hole and Cano still had the power edge and was still working to the body effectively enough to keep Theophane from fully opening up.
In the end, SB Nation had the bout 97-93 for Cano. The official scorecards read 96-94 Theophane, 98-92 Cano and 97-93 Cano. Cano survived a bad scorecard to take the decision
