The bout had played out in a way where, before the scorecards were read and the official decision announced, it seemed obvious that Mayweather would win by a wide margin. But then, Jimmy Lennon Jr. announced that the decision was a majority, not unanimous, decision.

Early in their bout, Canelo was able to start timing Mayweather, being competitive when deciding -- inexplicably -- to get involved in a technical boxing bout rather than utilizing his size. While the early rounds were competitive, Mayweather took over as the fight continued.

Mayweather came out and answered some good early punches by Canelo by landing some good combinations and popping Canelo around the face.

Canelo landed a good three punch combo but Mayweather landed his own combo in return. Canelo shoulder butted Mayweather in the clinch and the two men jawed back and forth. Mayweather’s jab remained strong, but Canelo returned with a jab to the body and then a three punch combo. Floyd wasn’t deterred as he returned some stiff jabs, wanting to just work that punch until Canelo stopped him. Mayweather also landed a nice combination which caused Canelo to shake his head and jaw at Floyd.

Both men traded jabs early, Canelo circling on the outside while Floyd took a low stance and pushed forward. The expectation coming in was that Canelo would be the man pushing forward.

From the opening bell it was Cano on the attack, working hard to the body and outclassing Theophane. While Theophane tried to continue moving around the outside, Cano stalked and threw body shots that kept Theophane from ever getting any degree of comfort.
