Vikings vs. Lions 2013 game recap: Reggie Bush spurs Lions victory, 34-24

Detroit normally struggle when Calvin Johnson struggles, but not so in Sunday’s game.

The Detroit Lions allowed two rushing touchdowns from Adrian Peterson and couldn't seem to find Calvin Johnson on offense. On the surface you'd assume trouble, but the Lions found help on offense from unexpected places Sunday to beat the Minnesota Vikings, 34-24.

Adding Reggie Bush could be the difference in Detroit's fortunes this year. The multi-faceted running back amassed 191 all-purpose yards Sunday while adding a receiving touchdown. Bush's ability as a receiver allowed Matthew Stafford to flourish when Johnson was ineffective, a luxury he hasn't had in the past.

The threat of Bush in the backfield opened up the game for Nate Burleson and Joique Bell, as the offense turned to short passing rather than its usual diet of deep bombs. Stafford finished with 357 yards passing, adding two touchdowns and an interception.

The Vikings should have built off Peterson's early 78-yard touchdown, but were once again let down by their quarterback play. Christian Ponder threw back-to-back interceptions, and would have added a pick six if not for an illegal block. Ponder finished with 236 yards passing and three interceptions, while Peterson was stonewalled, adding just 15 yards after that initial touchdown.
