Can Adrian Peterson repeat his 2,097-yard season? We'll see about that, but he's off to a good start. The Vikings running back broke off a 78-yard touchdown run on his very first touch of the season.
Vikings vs. Lions: Adrian Peterson starts the season with a touchdown
Adrian Peterson picked up right where he left off last season.
Watch him go!
Six running backs have topped the 2,000-yard mark. None of them were able to do it two seasons in a row. Barry Sanders came the closest with a 1,491 rushing yards in 1998, his final season in the NFL. Peterson was the seveth running back to reach that milestone, and he’s made it clear that he plans to break Eric Dickerson’s 2,105-yard record this season.
Minnesota grabbed a quick 7-0 lead against the Vikings thanks to Peterson’s touchdown. Detroit evened it up with their own one-of-kind player. Calvin Johnson caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford ... until that was overturned.
Say what you will about this game, it’s got plenty of star power to keep things interesting.
