Tony Romo injury: Quarterback returns for second half after taking shot to ribs

Tony Romo reportedly got the wind knocked out of him in the second quarter of Sunday night’s Giants-Cowboys game in Dallas.

The Dallas Cowboys' Pro Bowl quarterback Tony Romo was hit in the ribs by two defenders near the end of the first half of play during Sunday night's game between Dallas and the New York Giants. Romo, who recently signed a major multiple-year deal with Dallas, was seen in noticeable pain following the play that took place on second down with 38 seconds left in the second quarter. Defensive linemen Mathias Kiwanuka and Justin Trattou were in on the play that knocked him out of the game. Romo was assisted to the sideline by the Cowboys training staff following an injury timeout.

NBC Sunday Night Football commentator Cris Collinsworth pointed out that Romo was grimacing on the sideline and looked noticeably hurt. Kyle Orton, Romo's backup quarterback, came into the game into the game for the rest of the quarter, as Al Michaels and Collinsworth speculated about the condition of Romo's ribs.

Prior to the injury, Romo was 25-of-33 for 188 yards, a touchdown and an interception. According to the team, Romo had the wind knocked out of him and he returned in the second half of the game.

The Cowboys lead the Giants with a score of 13-10 early in the third quarter.
