Fantasy football rankings, Week 5: Wide receivers for standard, PPR leagues

Receivers continue to step up when given an opportunity. We take a look at some of your options with our Week 5 rankings.

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

I wish more players would play in revenge games. Steve Smith absolutely delivered some payback to the Carolina Panthers in Week 4, and his revenge game helped him lead all fantasy receivers for the week. In Week 3, DeSean Jackson delivered a nice point total in his revenge game against the Eagles. I know this doesn't work out for every receiver when he faces his old team, but it feels so good when it does.

The teams with a bye this week are Oakland and Miami. That doesn't hurt too much unless you're hurt by a bunch of injuries. The receivers that we'll be without this week include: Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, James Jones and Andre Holmes. Here's hoping that the time off will lessen the dysfunction within these two organizations. Maybe their passing attacks will be improved when they return in Week 6.

Fantasy Rankings: QB RB WR TE D/ST

Cecil Shorts has re-aggravated his hamstring injury and looks like he'll miss some more playing time. Right now it seems like he'll miss another 2-4 weeks. Allen Hurns will definitely benefit from an increase in targets in the meantime. Brandon Marshall and Calvin Johnson continue to battle through their ankle sprains. Marshall owners benefit from his heavy use in the red zone, but could use more receptions and yardage to get his full value. Johnson's owners, on the other hand, received a total of three points in Week 4. Many used a first-round pick to get him and expect double-digit point totals on a weekly basis. This ankle injury is a concern and we'll have to see if it lingers like Marshall's.

Mike Evans has a groin injury and reports say he'll miss 2-4 weeks. He could be ready to play following Tampa's Week 7 bye. Louis Murphy stepped in for the rookie and might be a nice waiver grab in deeper leagues. Marvin Jones looks like he'll suit up for this week's game. The Bengals have a pretty good matchup against the Patriots this week, but it would be wise to wait a week before throwing Jones back into your lineup.

Jarius Wright had a great game against the Falcons and was targeted by Teddy Bridgewater frequently. He should be a good play this week against the Packers. Green Bay will try to limit Greg Jennings and Cordarrelle Patterson, which should lead to some open looks for Wright. Devin Hester has also surprised the last two weeks, and he finally looks like a real receiver in this Atlanta offense. If you have an open roster spot, I would stash him. If your league counts return yards, he is a must have.
