Fantasy football advice, Week 6: Who to start/sit for 49ers vs. Rams

The last game of Week 6 in the NFL season features an NFC West matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the St. Louis Rams. Both teams have had two-game losing streaks this season, though the 49ers have won all three of their other games to sit at 3-2, while the Rams are currently 1-3.

The main fantasy-relevant injury from the 49ers' perspective is tight end Vernon Davis, who has been on and off the field in recent weeks. He was a question mark all week with a back injury, but after practicing late in the week, it looks like Davis will be on the field Monday. On the St. Louis side, Zac Stacy has been held up a little in practice with a calf injury, but he too is expected to be fine come game-time.

Start 'em: We're still waiting on the first big game from Colin Kaepernick this season, averaging just 15.6 fantasy points a game. He's still a starter, but at the back end of the QB1s. ... Frank Gore has looked good of late, with three double-digit fantasy games in his last four. He's a strong RB2. ... That's 37 points in the last two games for Phil Dawson, who has re-installed himself as one of fantasy's top kickers. ... The 49ers' defense slots in near the back of the week's top 10.

Start 'em?: Two awful games in a row for Michael Crabtree make him a low-end flex until he re-proves himself. ... Personally, I'd try to stay away from Vernon Davis this week, and let him show he can play an entire game before I buy back in, but it's possible you don't have a better option.

Sit 'em: With his usage fading, Carlos Hyde is basically just a handcuff right now. ... Anquan Boldin hasn't done much of anything this year, with Stevie Johnson passing him. Neither one is worth using right now.

Start 'em: Since it looks like he'll play, Zac Stacy will be a fine RB2 this week, though it wouldn't surprise me if Benny Cunningham sees his workload increase a bit.

Start 'em?: We've probably seen the best of Brian Quick this season, but averaging 12 fantasy points a game, he's still worthy of decent flex consideration. ... Greg Zuerlein's kicking numbers should improve over last week's numbers. He's a fine option.

Sit 'em: That's back-to-back games with 20-plus fantasy points for Austin Davis, which no one saw coming. He's still not someone I even think about starting, but if this keeps up against a good defense I might have to reconsider. ... Benny Cunningham will get more touches with Stacy banged up, but you'd have to be really desperate to use him. ... Kenny Britt has a decent Week 5, but you want to stay away from both him and Tavon Austin. ... Considering the dearth of decent tight end options right now, Jared Cook is closer to startability than most weeks, but I'd still want to look elsewhere. ... The Rams' defense hasn't put up huge numbers so far, and the 49ers' offense is good enough that you probably ought to look elsewhere.
