Fantasy football waiver wire advice, Week 8: Hot players with potential downside
Fantasy football is back! So are injuries and now bye weeks, though, so you may be looking for a short-term fix or a long-term solution. There are some players who are hot on the waiver wire lists who could have some potential downside. We bring you the top-five list here.

RB Tre Mason (owned in 17 percent of all leagues): He went from forgotten man through six games to getting the bulk of the carries in Week 7 in the St. Louis Rams backfield. Mason finished with 18 carries for 85 yards and a touchdown Sunday in the win over the Seattle Seahawks. Tavon Austin and Benny Cunningham also got playing time and carries while former starter Zac Stacy played one snap. Head coach Jeff Fisher isn't afraid to play rookie running backs, but he does have an affinity for players with experience. The Rams backfield bears watching while the situation unfolds.
RB Denard Robinson (owned in 10 percent of all leagues): He exploded for 127 yards plus a touchdown in the Week 7 win over the Cleveland Browns. The former quarterback struggled to adjust to his new position as a rookie, but appears to be entering his own in his second year. The Jaguars run game stagnated behind Toby Gerhart, and Robinson could be the spark it needs. However, the Jaguars have offensive line issues and are starting a rookie quarterback. They are also 30th in the league in rushing, averaging a mere 86 yards per game.
QB Ryan Tannehill (owned in 36 percent of leagues): He had one of his best outings Sunday against a Chicago Bears defense missing Lance Briggs, Chris Conte and Kyle Fuller. Tannehill threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns and did not turn the ball over. He added 48 rushing yards as well. Tannehill is turnover prone and has been inconsistent throughout his NFL career. Tannehill is a borderline start in standard leagues but could be useful for bye week or injury replacement.
WR Allen Robinson (owned in 15 percent of leagues): He scored his first NFL touchdown Sunday in the win over the Cleveland Browns. The Jaguars leading receiver is averaging 53 receiving yards per game and only has three receptions of over 20 yards. Robinson should be owned in dynasty leagues but should remain a boom or bust play this season typical of rookie wide receivers.
RB Darren McFadden (owned in 47 percent of leagues): He has largely remained healthy this season and is leading the Raiders in rushing, but that isn't saying much. The lead back for Oakland is averaging 46.5 rushing yards per game and has two rushing touchdowns. McFadden adds some small value in the passing game, but the numbers are largely unimpressive. You can, and should do better on the waiver wire.
