The Eagles needed a win to keep pace in the NFC playoff race, but a pair of missed field goals cose them with Washington coming away with a 27-24 win. The 49ers controlled most of the game, but the Chargers rallied from down 21 to win in overtime.
The most important games for Week 16
So, with that in mind, here’s a quick look at each big game this weekend, and I’ve listed teams along with their records and their spot in our weekly Power Rankings. The season has come down to the final two games -- hold on to your butts.
There’s still a pretty decent chance that a team with a losing record plays in the Playoffs this year. Hopefully that’s not the case, but it could happen. Regardless, someone has to win this division, and it’s somehow still a three-horse race.

Running back Frank Gore has had seven seasons of 1,000-plus rushing yards over the course of his career, including 1,128 yards in 2013. But his 2014 campaign has definitely been a down year, and he had just 804 yards on 3.9 yards per carry going into Saturday’s game. Well, nobody told Gore that he wasn’t supposed to put up big numbers, as he took his second carry 52 yards for the game’s first touchdown:
It was just the start to a big game for Gore. He led the 49ers to one of their best rushing performances of the season, accounting for 158 yards on the ground.

It’s the first rushing TD of Kap’s season, and 40 yards longer than his career high. Only Garrison Hearst had managed a longer rushing TD as a Niner.
Poor Eric Weddle. First he got sonned by Frank Gore with a stiff-arm on a 52-yard TD run, then he got made to look like a fool in open space here.

Tasos Katopodis/Getty ImagesHe’s definitely saying Obama! He yelled this several times. It’s not clear what presnap read this indicates -- our first guess was that he was telling his teammates No. 44 on the defense was blitzing, but the Chargers don’t have a 44.
If you’re liberal, feel free to point out that the Niners are winning in the comments, if you’re conservative, feel free to point out that this drive ended in a Kaepernick fumble being recovered for a TD by the Chargers.

You’re familiar with the Jim Harbaugh saga, right? Well, anyway, during Saturday night’s 49ers-Chargers game, these two apparently ended up on the Levi’s Stadium Jumbotron:
So, yeah. The Niners’ stadium staff presumably pick the stuff that goes on the big screen, and they ended up showing a pair of people asking the Niners’ coach to leave and go someplace else. That is weird.

It hasn’t been a great 2014 for Frank Gore, but he’s still got this in him:
That’s Brandon Flowers and Melvin Ingram crashing into him at the beginning of the run and Eric Weddle getting a stiffarm. The result was a 52-yard TD, the longest of Gore’s season.

Washington downs Philadelphia, 27-24
Washington held off the Philadelphia Eagles, taking advantage of a Mark Sanchez interception with under two minutes to go en route to a 27-24 win.
It was a tie game and the Eagles were driving, when Sanchez, who had already thrown for two touchdowns and over 370 yards, threw a pick to Bashaud Breeland. Washington took advantage, with a couple big plays to set them up in Philadelphia territory with just over a minute to go. A couple big runs and another first down burned through Philadelphia’s timeouts, and Kai Forbath managed the 26-yard field goal for the lead and the win.

Today is Saturday. Because the college football regular season is over, the NFL is playing a pair of games. The broadcast rights for these games fell to the NFL Network and CBS, the same pair of channels that broadcast Thursday Night Football. Therefore:
THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: SATURDAY EDITION does not make sense. Because, you know, just call it Saturday night football. I mean, it’s not even night. It’s bright out.

Defensively, Washington might have a tough time limiting Maclin and Matthews down the field. Washington ranks 17th against the pass and seventh against the run, meaning the Eagles’ aerial attack has a good chance of being effective.

Over at ESPN, only Mark Schlereth and Seth Wickersham are taking the 49ers to break the losing skid. There is a lot more faith in San Francisco at CBS Sports, with five of the eight experts picking the home team. USA Today also slightly favors the 49ers, with four of seven predictions leaning toward San Francisco.
At SB Nation, the Chargers get considerable love with five of our eight selections picking San Diego over San Fran.
