Bears in play for Jim Harbaugh, according to report

Jim Harbaugh has been coy with Michigan, according to Jay Glazer, suggesting that the 49ers’ head coach is interested in staying in the NFL. If so, the Bears may be his destination.

Jim Harbaugh is almost assuredly leaving San Francisco -- a collapse against the San Diego Chargers Saturday night didn't help -- but where he will land is unclear. According to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer on Sunday, the Chicago Bears may be a front runner.

The Bears sit at 5-9 in head coach Marc Trestman's second season following their loss to the New Orleans Saints Monday night. The Bears' season has been marred by losses and locker room strife. Recently, offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer had to apologize to the team after leaking comments to reporters disparaging quarterback Jay Cutler.

Harbaugh could be a stabilizing presence in Chicago’s locker room. He certainly has a proven track record of winning in the NFL. The Bears may have trouble luring him away from the University of Michigan, however. Glazer reported that Michigan has relayed its interest in Harbaugh, but Harbaugh has thus far demurred, telling the school, “You know, right now, I just don’t know what I wanna do.”

According to Glazer, Michigan will have its answer somewhere between 24 and 48 hours after the NFL regular season ends. If Harbaugh spurns his alma mater, Chicago could make sense as a destination.
