Sochi 2014 Olympic skiing schedule for Tuesday

Day 6 of the Winter Olympics in Sochi is chock-full of skiing events, ranging from the debuts of both freeskiing slopestyle and women’s ski jump, as well as the mainstays of cross-country and the always-exciting biathlon.

The women’s freeskiing slopestyle kicks things off for the wide-ranging discipline with the qualification round beginning at 1 a.m. ET, followed by the finals starting at 4 a.m. Americans should be strong in this event, with Devin Logan and Keri Herman both favorites for the podium.

5 a.m.: Women’s Sprint Free, Qualification
5:25 a.m.: Men’s Sprint Free, Qualification
7 a.m.: Women’s Sprint Free, Quarterfinals
7:25 a.m.: Men’s Sprint Free, Quarterfinals
7:56 a.m.: Women’s Sprint Free, Semifinals
8:06 a.m.: Men’s Sprint Free, Semifinals

8:22 a.m.: Women’s Sprint Free, Final
8:30 a.m.: Men’s Sprint Free, Final

The women’s biathlon 10km pursuit follows shortly thereafter at 10 a.m. The competition includes 60 participants with their order based on the results from Sunday’s sprint event. The course includes five loops and four shooting bouts. Fastest overall wins.

Wrapping up the day’s ski events is a biggie. After a long battle for inclusion, the women will finally have the chance to jump, with the commencing of Tuesday’s individual normal hill. The first round of two jumps begins at 12:30 p.m., with finals, also two jumps, starting at 1:20 p.m. Scores are based on distance and style, and Americans Lindsey Van, Jessica Jerome and reigning world champion Sarah Hendrickson each pose a legitimate threat for the medals.
