Sochi 2014 Olympics medal count: (G)o(ld) Canada
The Canadian athletes take the medal count lead with a dominant performance in Women’s Slopestyle. Their southerly neighbors are still breathing down their necks.

The North Americans dominated Women’s Slopestyle on Tuesday morning, much to nobody’s surprise. Canadians Dara Howell and Kim Lamarre took home the gold and bronze medals, respectively, while Long Island native Devin Logan got the Americans the silver.

Maiken Caspersen Falla won the gold at 2:35.49. Fellow Norwegian Ingvild Flustad Oestberg received the silver with her 2:35.87 (+0.38) time, which edged out Slovenian Vesna Fabjan’s 2:35.89 by just two hundreths of a second, leaving her with bronze.
On the men’s side of the event, a crash took out most of the competitors, allowing Norwegian Ola Vigen Hattestad to win gold with a 3:38.39 time. Teodor Peterson of Sweden took the bronze with a 3:39.61 run (+1.22). The crash pushed the rest of the field behind.
Emil Joennsen, also of Sweden, was able to recover first and secure the bronze with a 3:58.13 time, almost 20 seconds after Hattestad crossed the line.Norway took three of the six medals in the event, as well as both fourth-place finishes.
Norway regained the medal count lead in the cross-country events, pulling ahead of Canada. The Netherlands and the United States are close behind. Click here for the full count.
