Sochi 2014: Event schedule for Thursday
It’s a big day for the biggest women’s events at the Winter Olympics, with the hockey, figure skating and curling finals all taking place on Thursday. Here’s your schedule for the day.
Two popular Winter Olympic events reach their climax on Thursday with the gold medal rounds in women’s hockey and women’s individual figure skating.
In hockey, old foes meet again as the United States faces Canada in a rematch of their Vancouver gold medal game. The Canadians won that game, 2-0, and are looking to get another one over their neighbors to the south. Team USA hasn’t won the gold since Nagano in 1998, getting two silver medals and a bronze in that span.
The other major event of the day is the women’s free skating program. South Korea’s Yuna Kim is in first place after a short program that didn’t exactly go to plan for most skaters. Russia’s Yulia Lipnitskaia was getting all the attention heading into this event, but she suffered a crushing fall in the short skate and is in fifth place. That opened the door for fellow Russian Adelina Sotnikova and Italy’s Carolina Kostner to sneak into second and third place, respectively. As for the Americans, Gracie Gold is in the best position to get on the podium in fourth place, with Ashley Wagner in sixth and Polina Edmunds seventh.
Other medal events include the women’s curling final, men’s ski cross, women’s ski halfpipe and Nordic combined. Here’s the complete schedule for the day (all times ET, medal events in italics):
