SB Nation 2014 Olympics Preview

Slopestyle is a new event for the 2014 Winter Olympics and Jamie Anderson helped Team USA stamp its mark on the sport at Sochi with a second gold medal in as many days.

Anderson may have been the favorite entering the event, but the 23-year-old had a penchant for the dramatic. She put down a solid first run that left her in second place, then came through when it counted with a second run of 95.25 to hold off Enni Rukajarvi of Finland and capture the gold medal.

It was a change of fortunes for Anderson, who finished with the silver during the 2014 Winter X Games in Aspen. In that event she finished second to Silje Nordendal of Norway, who was seen as a major threat in Sochi, following back-to-back X Games gold but was unable to put together a solid run at the Olympics, finishing in 11th place.

Sarka Pancochova of the Czech Republic had the best run in the semifinals, and despite not qualifying directly into the finals, looked to have the hot hand. She threw down the best opening run of the finals, but couldn’t follow up and posted the second-lowest final run to finish in 5th.

The gold medal ensured Team USA will leave Sochi as world-leaders of the event following Sage Kotsenburg’s gold in the Men’s Slopestyle on Saturday. These represent the only two gold medals for the USA at Sochi thus far.

Here are the complete results from Ladies’ Slopestyle.
