Sochi Winter Olympics 2014 medal count: Team USA picks up second gold

The United States is tied for the lead with two gold medals, though they trail Norway in the overall medal count by three.

Team USA picked up two more medals on Sunday in Sochi, but they still trail Norway in the overall medal count.

With all of Sunday’s events wrapped up, Norway has seven medals. Four of those are bronze, two are gold and one is silver. The United States (two gold, two bronze) and the Netherlands (two gold, one silver, one bronze) are tied for second with four medals apiece. Canada and Russia also both have four medals, though they’ve only won gold in one competition thus far.

Jamie Anderson of Team USA won the gold medal in Ladies Slopestyle Snowboarding on Sunday. Team USA also picked up a bronze in team figure skating.

As for Sunday’s gold medal recipients, Austria picked up gold in Men’s Downhill Skiing as Matthias Mayer won by a couple of milliseconds. Anastasiya Kuzmina of Slovakia won the Women’s 7.5 km Biathlon Sprint for the second Olympics in a row. Dario Cologna of Switzerland won the Men’s Skiathlon.

The Russians won team figure skating.

Felix Loch of Germany won gold in Men’s Singles Luge.

Irene Wust of the Netherlands came out on top in the Ladies’ 3000m speed skating, and Kamil Stoch dominated the Normal Hill Ski Jump to win gold for Poland as the day wrapped up in Sochi.

Coming into Sunday, Norway led the way with four medals total. Canada and the Netherlands were tied for second place with three medals, taking home one of each kind. The United States was fourth with two medals; Sage Kotsenburg won the gold medal in the inaugural men’s snowboarding slopestyle event. Sweden, Austria and the Czech Republic each had one medal coming into Sunday.
