Snowboard

The ladies’ slopestyle medal was decided on Sunday for the first time in Winter Olympic history. Team USA continued its domination of the event with a second gold medal on the back of a stellar run from Jamie Anderson.

Anderson was the favorite entering the event and waited until her second run to throw down a big score that the competition could not match. It brought Team USA its second gold medal of the games.

Medal Country Name
Gold USA Jamie Anderson
Silver FIN Enni Rukajarvi
Bronze GBR Jenny Jones
Men’s Downhill

The day started on the Alpine slope where American Bode Miller entered the event as favorite. He struggled on a difficult course and was unable to replicate his strong training sessions, finishing in disappointing fashion in eighth place.

Medal Country Name
Gold AUT Matthias Mayer
Silver ITA Christof Innerhofer
Bronze NOR Kjetil Jansrud
Women’s 7.5km Sprint

The Biathlon wasn’t an event the United States were believed to medal in, and it went to form. Susan Dunklee of Team USA finished the best among American competitors in 14th place, well outside of medal contention. Eastern Europe dominated the race with a 1-2-3 finish.

Medal Country Name
Gold SVK Anastasiya Kuzmina
Silver RUS Olga Vilukhina
Bronze UKR Vita Semerenko
Men’s Skiathlon 15 km classic + 15 km free

Men’s Skiathlon was a similar affair as the Biathlon, but it was Western Europe rather than Eastern that held on to gain all the medals. Noah Hoffman had the best finish of athletes representing Team USA, but finished 35th overall.

Medal Country Name
Gold SUI Dario Cologna
Silver SWE Marcus Hellner
Bronze NOR Martin Johnsrud Sundby
Figure Skating

The first medals in the inaugural figure skating team event were handed out at Sochi, and Team USA got back into contention to finish with a bronze medal. Efforts in the ladies’ free and free ice dance helped mitigate struggles on the men’s side to capture third place.

Russia’s commanding lead remained infallible and gave the host country plenty to cheer about on Sunday night.

Medal Country
Gold Russia
Silver Canada
Bronze USA
Speed Skating

Adler Arena hosted the Ladies’ 3000 m speed staking and Netherlands continued its early domination of the event at Sochi. Ireen Wust last won gold in 2006 in Torino and now has a second medal, cementing her legacy. She finished over a second faster than he nearest competitor, while Jilleanne Rookard was the highest-placed American in 10th.

Medal Country Name
Gold NED Ireen Wust
Silver CYE Martina Sablikova
Bronze RUS Olga Graf
Luge

The Men’s singles luge medal went to Felix Loch of Germany, winner of the gold in Vancouver and an eight-time gold medal winner in the World Championships.

Team USA has never won a luge singles medal and that continued. Christopher Mazdzer had a solid run, but was unable to match the sport’s best and finished in 13th place.

Armin Zoeggeler reached the Olympic podium for the sixth time in his career.

Medal Country Name
Gold GER Felix Loch
Silver RUS Albert Demchenko
Bronze ITA Armin Zoeggeler
Ski Jumping

Sochi’s evening was rounded out at the RusSki Gorki Ski Jumping Center, which hosted the Men’s Normal Hill Individual. Austria have had a grip on this event in the past, but despite holding onto first and second with three jumpers left they were unseated by a talented trio that dashed medal hopes in three trips down the slope.

No Americans qualified for the final making it a competition between Europeans and two Japanese jumpers.

Medal Country Name
Gold POL Kamil Stoch
Silver SLO Peter Prevc
Bronze NOR Anders Bardal
