Mayweather vs Maidana results: J’Leon Love survives knockdown to decision Marco Antonio Periban

Marco Antonio Periban was able to score a knockdown against J’Leon Love, but Love came back strong to earn the decision win.

J’Leon Love and Marco Antonio Periban opened the pay-per-view broadcast for Floyd Mayweather vs. Marcos Maidana with an entertaining scrap.

The fight was close at the sportsbook and played out in a way that explained why.

Love was the clear “better boxer,” utilizing better footwork, better punching angles and more diverse offense from the opening bell. Periban was the tough guy brawler, throwing wild punches but with a certain commendable conviction.

Periban caught Love hard a few times early, causing Love to clinch and ride out some trouble. Round five was Periban’s best, he landed some big flurries, causing Love to reel around and hold on for dear life. Eventually Love was overwhelmed and went to the canvas for the first knockdown of the fight.

Love was able to get up and take back control after landing an elbow that opened a cut above Periban’s eye. Periban was clearly bothered by the cut and was shown in his corner talking about how he was having trouble seeing due to the blood flowing into his eye.

Love’s confidence rose from that point on and he took over the fight and cruised for the decision victory by scores of 95-93, 97-92 and 96-93.
