Floyd Mayweather Jr. beat Marcos Maidana in a majority decision in a welterweight title unification bout on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Harry HowFollowing the conclusion of the bout between Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana it appears things got wild prior to the the post-fight press conference.
There were tweets from media at the event saying a brawl broke out, fans broke down the barrier to the media room and there were unconfirmed reports of gunfire at the MGM Grand.

Instead, Maidana had a legitimate claim that he deserved to win the decision when his twelve rounds with Mayweather came to a close. The fact that those words can be typed was a shock in and of itself, but Maidana actually managed to get the draw on one of the three official scorecards, but lost the other two.

Mayweather came out and threw some decent shots before Maidana pushed forward again, looking to land against the ropes. Maidana dug to the body and the two men clinched up. Maidana then pushed Floyd into the ropes again and had some moments.

Maidana tried to push Mayweather into the ropes again, landed one punch and Mayweather clinched to get the fight back to the center of the ring. This time Maidana was able to get some work done and actually landed to the body and head. Then a hard body shot scored for Maidana.

Last night the camps met to review the gloves to be worn when the Mayweater camp objected to a pair of gloves that Maidana planned to wear for tonight’s Showtime pay-per-view bout. The gloves in question were a custom made pair of powder blue Everlast MX. Their objection centered around the padding in the gloves and that it was too easy to manipulate to move padding away from the knuckle area and to the wrist area, thus keeping the gloves 8 ounces, but allowing for a harder punching surface.
