Amir Khan needed to come up big on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather vs. Marcos Maidana. Many felt that, with a win over Luis Collazo, Khan would put himself in position to be the next man to challenge Floyd Mayweather (assuming Mayweather beats Maidana later tonight).
Mayweather vs Maidana results: Amir Khan decisions Luis Collazo in ugly fight
Amir Khan wins an ugly fight against Luis Collazo to put himself in position to possibly earn a bout with Floyd Mayweather.
It was an ugly fight, not one that anyone would really said raised Khan’s stock by any measure, but he did manage to get his hand raised at the end.
Khan managed a trio of knockdowns, one in the fourth and two in the tenth, but the fight was as much marked by fouls as the moments of speed and power from Khan. Both men lost points, Khan for holding and Collazo for low blows, and the fight seemed close to coming off the rails at multiple points.
Instead, Khan plugged his way to the finish, outworking the overmatched Collazo to score a win in his welterweight debut.
The final scores of the fight were 117-106, 119-104 and 119-104, all for Khan.
