PGA Championship 2014 tee times: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson paired in opening rounds

Congratulations, PGA: You have our attention.

Jim Rogash

The final major of the 2014 season is set to go out with a bang, as the PGA announced that Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will be paired in the opening round of the 2014 PGA Championship. The tournament will be held at Kentucky’s Valhalla Golf Club.

Woods will be attempting to win his 15th major championship, which would break a six-year drought dating back to his last major win at the 2008 U.S. Open. Woods has had previous success at Valhalla, winning the PGA Championship when it was last hosted at the site in 2000. The win marked Woods’ second consecutive PGA Championship (he won the tournament for the first time in 1999) and acted as the precursor to two more wins at the tournament (2006, 2007). In total, Woods has won the PGA Championship four times.

Mickelson has also had success at the event, winning the 2005 PGA Championship held at New Jersey's Baltusrol Golf Club. Mickelson's last victory at a major came at the 2013 Open Championship. In total, he has five major championships on his résumé (three wins at the Masters).

Mickelson and Woods’ championship trio will be rounded out by Padraig Harrington, the winner of the 2008 PGA Championship. Harrington has three major victories, including consecutive wins at The Open Championship (2007, 2008).

The trio is set to tee off from the No. 10 tee at 8:35 a.m. ET on Thursday, Aug. 7.

Defending champion Jason Dufner will be paired with Keegan Bradley (the 2011 PGA Championship winner) and Y.E. Yang. The trio will begin on the first tee at 1:55 p.m.

Rory McIlroy will be paired with Martin Kaymer and Bubba Watson, beginning their tournament on the first tee at 1:45 p.m.
