Robert Allenby has ‘no memory in his brain’ of $3,400 strip club tab

Allenby’s press conference at the Phoenix Open does not provide many new details to the robbery in Hawaii, but the PGA pro says he’s sticking to his story.

Robert Allenby says he has “no memory in his brain” of a two-hour-plus stretch, which included a $3,400 tab at a Honolulu strip club, on the night he said he was robbed and kidnapped.

After withdrawing from last week’s Humana Challenge, Allenby decided to play the Phoenix Open this week and met with the media for the first time since he alleged he was kidnapped and thrown from the trunk of a car. Alllenby’s press conference came just hours after Tiger Woods addressed the press for the first time on missing busted teeth. And much like Tiger, Allenby began by sticking to his story.

Allenby, however, did not discuss the original details of a kidnapping, assault and being thrown from a trunk into a park on Oahu. A robbery did occur, and Allenby has told Golf Channel’s Rex Hoggard that more than $25,000 in charges have been run up on his credit card. But he stated Tuesday in Phoenix that he has absolutely no recollection of a two-and-half hour stretch on the evening in question:

“From 11:06 to 1:27 a.m., I have no memory in my brain. I have nothing. I’ve been trying and looking over and going backwards and forwards and there’s just nothing. I can’t tell you how frustrating that is because we all want to get the truth and get to the bottom of it.”

Allenby maintains that he’s told the public everything he knows, and everything that was told to him. He clarified that he was referring to Charade Keane, the homeless woman who reportedly found him, when discussing what was “told to him.” Keane, however, quickly disputed the details that Allenby was thrown from a trunk. The PGA player was also found by Keane down the block from the wine bar where he said he was abducted, and not a park 6 miles away, as he initially relayed.

The Aussie’s tone for much of the press conference was defiant, pointing the finger at the media for rushing to blame his role in the story:

“I told you what I knew and what someone had told me. That is the bottom line. And from that, obviously, the media had decided that they’re the most amazing experts at investigations. There’s a reason why detectives in Honolulu are some of the best in the world and I’d really appreciate it if we let them do their jobs and get to the bottom of it.”

In addition to reiterating his story, Allenby also tried to hammer home that he is the victim of this ordeal. It’s clear he was robbed, but how that robbery occurred is still so hazy.

The timeline set out by Hoggard’s detailed reporting at Golf Channel would point toward Allenby potentially being drugged at the wine bar, which might explain the two-hour gap in his memory. Allenby, who said he had a blood test done, stated, “There’s no way in the world what I drank could do what was done to me.”

The four-time PGA Tour winner got emotional discussing the impact the portrayal of the incident has had on his children. He also stated that he was still having headaches up until two days ago, but he was hitting the ball well and looking forward to playing the Phoenix Open.
