NHL Thursday: Capitals top Canucks 3-2 on last minute Ovechkin goal

Toffoli starts on the forehand, then goes inside, outside, inside again, toe drags around Jones’ sprawling pad and manages to bank the puck off of the Sharks’ cage before depositing it home.

What might be more impressive about the goal is the fact that all three Sharks playing defense were just as dazzled by Toffoli’s moves as Jones was. Seriously, he was left all alone in front with no San Jose pressure to disrupt the sequence. Good for Toffoli, bad for the Sharks.

Dubnyk may not necessarily be at fault on the goal, as it seems he steps on his defenseman in front which causes him to make one stride too many in an attempt to cover up the post.

Still, it’s a nice first goal of the year from Wennberg, who let the puck go from a tight angle at the bottom of the left circle to cap off a solid play.
