How can Rick Nash's first goal of the year, and 700th point of his career, never actually cross the goal line? It certainly can happen, and it did in the New York Rangers game against the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night.
Rick Nash’s 700th career point never makes it into the net
Even worse? It’s his first goal of the year.

— Stephanie (@myregularface) October 23, 2015 Nash was on his way to pot an empty net goal to cap off the Rangers' 4-1 victory over the Coyotes when the forward was interfered with as he was about to shoot the puck. The refs conferred on the play and Nash was awarded the goal despite never putting the puck anywhere close to the net.
There’s actually precedence in the NHL rulebook on this crazy play, which you can read below.
let's try this again: a few fans not sure of this rule regarding the nash goal - here it is in the rulebook 25.1 pic.twitter.com/oLg1tqdhkp
