Week 9 was weird for tight ends. It was the first time all season Rob Gronkowski played and didn’t put up top-10 numbers at the position. The top nod went to Tennessee Titans Delanie Walker, and Tyler Eifert was second with his big Thursday game.
Fantasy football waiver wire: 5 tight ends to target in Week 10
Week 9 wasn’t a big week for tight ends on the fantasy football waiver wire. Here are some players to look at for Week 10.
Here are some other possible pickups for owners missing out on some tight end points.
Eric Ebron, Detroit Lions (owned in 24 percent of leagues)
The Lions are not very good. They have just one win and now receiver Calvin Johnson is a little banged up with an ankle injury. Since they can’t stop teams, there should be a lot of passes.
Ebron has been targeted at least five times all but once this season and that number should even trend up. The Lions will want to find an identity to their passing game and find out if Ebron is a part of it. He has a great schedule against the Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders and Philadelphia Eagles coming up. He could be a top-10 option.
Crockett Gillmore, Baltimore Ravens (owned in 8 percent of leagues)
The Ravens are running out of options in the passing game. Receiver Steve Smith is out for the year and now Kamar Aiken is the top guy for WRs. Of course, that means we should see a lot of targets going to the tight ends now. Gillmore is more pro-ready than fellow tight end Maxx Williams, so he figures to be the main beneficiary.
They are coming off a bye and get the Jacksonville Jaguars this week.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (owned in 34 percent of leagues)
The Bucs are finally starting to become a decent offense. Quarterback Jameis Winston is coming along just fine. ASJ did not play on Sunday even though he was able to get some practice time in this past week. Practice?
Winston has thrown the ball at least 29 times in each of his last three games, so the Bucs are getting away from the run a little bit. AJS caught two scores in his debut, so he figures to be a prominent red-zone target once he’s back. He should have success against the Cowboys this week.
Richard Rodgers, Green Bay Packers (owned in 24 percent of leagues)
He actually saw nine targets on Sunday, turning them into five catches for 19 yards and two scores. Rodgers has averaged 6.5 targets per game in his last four and is becoming a fixture in the red zone. He probably won’t be putting up many big games, but a red-zone threat on the Packers is a good thing. He gets a good schedule in the next month against division teams: Detroit Lions this week, Minnesota Vikings next week, then the Chicago Bears, and the Lions again. He should be a top-15 option in that span and maybe top 10.
Vernon Davis, Denver Broncos (owned in 74 percent of leagues)
Everyone ran to the wire to add him last week, but they forgot one thing: Peyton Manning can’t throw it like he used to. Davis also played just nine snaps in his first game. That will certainly be going up, but don’t expect Davis to be a difference maker until December. He’s more of a stash.
