The countdown to UFC 194: “Aldo vs. McGregor” is almost complete.
In just a few short hours, the mixed martial arts (MMA) action will erupt inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring the long-awaited grudge match between Featherweight champion Jose Aldo against interim 145-pound kingpin Conor McGregor in the pay-per-view (PPV) main event.
The Aldo vs. McGregor main event is scheduled for five rounds of five minutes each. The winner will unify the two belts to become the undisputed Featherweight champion. Aldo is UFC’s first-ever Featherweight champion, claiming the belt back in 2011 and defending it ever since. In fact, “Scarface” has been in the top spot since World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC), where he defeated Mike Brown to claim the strap way back in 2009.
It’s been an incredible run. And the only reason McGregor has some hardware around his waist is because Aldo had to withdraw from their match at UFC 189 earlier this year with a rib injury -- McGregor went on to earn the “interim” label with a second-round finish of Chad Mendes.
The PPV co-main event is another championship showdown between undefeated Middleweight champion, Chris Weidman, putting his crown on the line against former Strikeforce 185-pound roost ruler, Luke Rockhold. It’s a great match up that would certainly headline any other major event, but UFC 194 is something special -- easily the promotion’s most stacked show from bottom to top.
That’s not all.
In addition to the five-fight PPV main card there is also a seven-fight “Prelims” undercard that will be split between UFC’s online digital network, “Fight Pass,” and its television broadcasting partner, FOX Sports 1.
